Activists protest press laws on World Press Freedom Day

May 4th, 2008

World Press Freedom, May 3, is observed in many countries in the region, but is usually ignored by Singaporeans. This year, however, a group of independent activists ensured that there was at least a whimper of support for press freedom. Five activists – Chong Kai Xiong, Ho Choon Hiong, Isrizal, Noora Zul, Seelan Palay and Shafiie – posed for the camera with banners made out of sheets of newspaper, decrying press controls. The activists are mainly/all members of the new human rights group,  SG Human Rights. View the pictures here, and read Ho Choon Hiong’s blog here.
